Los Angeles-based Grenco Science announced on Tuesday that it is launching the G Pen Hyer, a cannabis vaporizer designed to operate with both marijuana concentrates and dried cannabis flower. The new device, a portable and intuitively designed e-nail engineered to deliver best-in-class flavor and vapor production, launched on November 15 in retail stores nationwide and online at gpen.com.

Engineered to maximize flavor profiles in cannabis concentrates as well as dried and cured flower, the G Pen Hyer features smart heating technology with constant temperature output allowing for a consistent and efficient experience with every vaping session. The new device houses a powerful heating element in a lightweight anodized aluminum casing for concentrate or dry herb consumption and is designed to pair with any glass-on-glass water piece.

The G Pen Hyer comes pre-programmed with five heat settings for quick temperature control and includes an automatic shut-off function. Featuring a quick start-up, the G Pen Hyer heats up to a wide range of temperatures between 482°F (250°C) and 842°F (450°C) in a matter of seconds. A simple three-button operation paired with an LED interface offers fast activation using a 6,000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery with rapid, pass-through charging via a USB-C cable.

A magnetic cap with a built-in ceramic liner and dual airflow holes offers easy access to the concentrates tank, which features a full quartz chamber and airpath with an internal up-stem. The large capacity tank provides maximum surface area for heating, efficient airflow and optimal vaporization of all types of concentrate materials, while an optional dry herb tank assembly allows the device to be used with cured cannabis flower. The G Pen Hyer comes in a convenient hemp travel case along with a 14mm male glass adapter to attach to any water piece, with 10mm and 18mm glass adapters sold separately.

Grenco Science CMO Lisa Harun notes that designing a vaporizer that works well with both cannabis concentrates and dry flower presents several challenges for cannabis hardware manufacturers.

“The biggest challenge is making a device that’s suitable for two completely different user preferences. The quartz banger dabber is not the same consumer as the low temp dry herb vaper,” Harun writes in an email. “You must understand the market, competition and consumers at all levels to develop a product that can check both buckets. It’s been a struggle for many brands, including ourselves, but we really think we nailed it with this one.”

She adds that the company addresses these issues with Hyer’s “platform with two completely separate atomizers. There’s no insert or gimmick for dual use, rather two entirely separate heaters and functions run by the same smart battery pack. In the past, dual-use solutions required using a single heating system for both substrates which would taint the flavor one way or the other.” Other options utilized the standard 510 vape pen variable voltage system and thus “didn’t offer any real temperature control.”

Chris Folkerts, CEO of Grenco Science, noted that the new cannabis vaporizer follows the company’s acquisition of vape manufacturer Vapium in 2020.
