A JAZZMAN’S BLUES (2022) Solea Pfeiffer as Leanne and Joshua Boone as Bayou. Cr: Jace Downs/NETFLIX

Set in 1947 Georgia, Tyler Perry’s latest film A Jazzman’s Blues is a tale of forbidden love and deceit. Joshua Boone and Solea Pfieffer star as Bayou and Leanne, lovers torn apart by Leanne’s forbidding relatives. Fast-forward a few years, they’ve both moved on with their lives. Bayou becomes a singing sensation while Leanne marries another man.

When fate brings them together again, neither can resist the siren call of their first love, and the couple conspires to run away. But can they outrun the dark secrets their reunion has shaken free from the past?

Boone and Pfeiffer are joined by Amirah Vann, Austin Scott, and Ryan Eggold as the main cast for the movie. Given the film’s title, you can guess that music plays a pivotal role in the movie. It also features an original song by Ruth B. I wouldn’t be surprised if “Paper Airplanes” is nominated for Best Original Song at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The complete list of original songs featured in the movie is available below. The orchestral music in A Jazzman’s Blues was composed by the classically-trained composer Aaron Zigman, who has worked with Perry on several of his other movies, like Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, Good Deeds, and Madea’s Witness Protection.

Now that the movie is officially out in the world, Netflix has created an official playlist that you can access via Spotify or Apple Music!

A Jazzman’s Blues is now streaming on Netflix. Have you watched the movie yet?
